Proper Flag Pole Lighting Provides Constant Patriotic Display of U.S. Flag

For most Americans, patriotic summer holidays provide the opportunity for reflection and appreciation of our country. Increasingly, Americans are displaying their patriotism by flying the American flag.

With such displays comes the responsibility of respecting flag etiquette. For example, Americans wishing to fly the flag from dusk until the dawn's early light should properly illuminate Old Glory, according to the U.S. Flag Code, a set of government regulations which outline proper treatment of the flag.

Thanks to specialized lighting, available at www.Americanflagstore.com, which complies with these codes and is made specifically for flag and flagpole lighting, respecting nighttime flag etiquette is not a problem.

"Americans are showing their patriotism more than ever," "We're thrilled to help them put a spotlight on their symbol of American pride."

Americanflagstore.com, inc. offers high quality flags, flagpoles and other related accessories. As well as flag illumination products. Available in versions for both residential and commercial use, products include in- and above-ground lighting. Do-it-yourself kits as well as more heavy-duty equipment requiring installation by a licensed electrician are offered.

Flag Lighting Guide

Flag Lighting Guide

U.S. Flag Code states that it is the universal custom to display the American flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the American flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

1. Lighting effects can vary, and are dependent on both the viewer and the positioning of light fixtures.

Using multiple lighting fixtures can enhance overall lighting effect.

2. Using multiple lighting fixtures will ensure that the flag is illuminated regardless of wind direction and viewer visibility.

3. Fixtures should be setback from the pole one-third to one-half the length of the flag. Other setbacks will produce different results as well as tilting or aiming the lighting fixtures toward the flag can also increase light levels.

4. Setbacks are also dependent on type of lighting fixture(s) and wattage.

5. Floodlights should be used to illuminate flags at heights over 50FT.
